We had the chance to chat with one of Dispatch's very first drivers, Nicole, to learn how she got started, why she drives with Dispatch, and what makes this the perfect gig for her.
First, we want to say thanks for taking the time to chat with us and for being such an amazing part of our Dispatch Driver team! How did you first hear about Dispatch?
I was working for Amazon as an independent driver at the time and a fellow driver had heard of Dispatch. It was Valentine’s Day night. We ran into each other doing restaurant deliveries in a pizza joint. He wasn’t willing to switch to an iPhone. I was like...that’s not going to stop me!
How long have you been driving with Dispatch?
Practically since the beginning! About late February, early March of 2017.
What kind of vehicle do you drive?
I drive a cargo van but also from time to time drive my Nissan Rogue which counts as an SUV in the Dispatch Driver app.
Why did you decide that Dispatch was the best job fit for you and your lifestyle?
I wanted more control of my time and I was sick of spending countless hours mindlessly “fishing for shifts" on the Amazon driver app. Dispatch gave me my free time back.
Tell us a bit about why you believe Dispatch is different than other driving jobs like Uber, Amazon, etc.
I like that you never know what’s going to pop up for the day. It’s like hitting the jackpot when you catch that $60/80/200+ run. There’s plenty of work! Even on a slow day, I can easily make $100.
What would you say has been your coolest experience while driving with Dispatch?
One of my first deliveries in a cargo van was delivering to a Blue Ox jobsite. I had yet to unload and the customer stopped me and taught me how to unload any piece of equipment with a dolly out of the van. I’ve since kind of become a legend! The unsuspecting chick that can unload gigantic equipment out of a van about 99% of the time without help. Most people are quite impressed when they see me in action! Shoot, I’m quite impressed.
That's so awesome! So why should other people drive with Dispatch?
I like that you can work on your days off from other jobs or make it a full-time job. That you aren’t stuck in a set block of time if you have a family emergency, i.e. kids get sick at school...you just finish your run and boom you are suddenly available to solve the problems of the world!
What else should people know about Nicole?!
I like knowing that I had a hand in helping a company grow from the ground up. I love knowing that I was a go-getter and that rules changed and the app evolved because of my input and help. What can I say...I’ve got fast fingers and a strong, deep-rooted midwest work ethic. That, and I LOVE making money! 💰
