Connect, Deliver, Succeed: Discover the Dispatch Difference
In this Driver Spotlight, we caught up with Mick, one of our drivers of the month. Based out of Pittsburgh, PA, Mick is an independent contract driver with over 30 years of experience and a lot of advice to share. Read on to see what he has to say about finding success with Dispatch, and why he recommends us to other gig drivers.
How did you hear about Dispatch?
I heard about Dispatch on Indeed*, an online employment app.
How long have you been driving with Dispatch?
I’ve been driving with Dispatch for about half a year now.
What kind of vehicle do you drive?
I drive a high-top ProMaster van by Ram.
Why did you decide that Dispatch was the best job fit for you and your lifestyle?
Dispatch has been the best fit for me after looking for 33 years because of the app you have designed. You took out the politics and made Dispatch the only true up-and-up gig I’ve ever had. My Driver Engagement Agent, Brendan, also played a huge role in showing me how honest and upfront your system is.
Tell us your favorite Dispatch story!
My favorite Dispatch story is when I drove from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis. I had been driving for Dispatch all day in Pittsburgh when I got this run at end of my day. After a few hours of sleep, I drove all night to Indianapolis to make the delivery. On the way home, I stopped to work all day in Ohio. In 32 hours I had made over 1,000 bucks.
Why should other people drive with Dispatch?
I believe everyone should work with Dispatch, it’s the only honest last-mile delivery service. It also allows you to set your own hours and doesn't interfere with any other gigs, allowing for success on all levels.
What’s your favorite thing about being able to set your own hours?
My favorite thing about setting my own hours is that for Dispatch they don’t punish you for NOT working, which is extremely important. Instead, you pick what works for your schedule — for me that is priceless. Plus, it makes being successful easy and fun!
If you could give any advice to other drivers at Dispatch, what would it be?
My advice to other drivers is to have a great attitude and appreciate what a good system this is. Having a can-do and positive relationship with customers can mean more work. Keep in touch with customers as soon as you start a job and once you get to a delivery location. It shows the customers that you can be trusted and makes everything so much smoother. You'll get good tips* this way. Also, watch the app constantly for that diamond.
I’ve been independent contract driving since 1987. I've logged over three million miles. The last 2 million with no accidents or tickets. Accidents, tickets, and mistakes slow you down; they also take away your hard-earned profits. Be quick, but don’t make mistakes. Double and triple check your work and you will succeed. If you work smart and hard you will be successful beyond belief. I’ve made over six figures a year, for ten years, following these rules.
Tell us anything else you'd like to know!
If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. Also, Dispatch team members like J.J. are one of the most important resources for drivers. He, as well as his other team members, are so helpful and will make Dispatch the best gig you’ve ever had.
*Please note: Dispatch no longer advertises for drivers on Indeed. If you're interested in driving for Dispatch, you can sign up on our website. Tips are not expected, nor should they be requested. The Dispatch system does not include a tipping option. However, should a customer provide a tip to the driver, the money is theirs to keep.
